Background

Mateo was raised in an orphanage in Vatican City, (Italy) he has tried without success so far to find out who his parents were, as it is very rare to be part of this orphanage which ussually just holds special children (mostly unacknowledged sons of the clergy). He was mentored ever since he was a child by Father Jonas. In any case, he quickly grew a strong faith along with a strong reasoning mind, both of these traits soon called attention upon him and he was given scholarships to be educated in the best Schools along with private teachers that would further complete his education with Theology (Catholicism mainly). He did the career of History complemented with theology.

Early around his 16th birthday, he started expressing his desire to be a more active part on the work against eveil, and become an exorcist.This seemed to serve to complement his studies with historical cases of exorcisms and various fenomena that had been documented by the catholic church, and accompanied visits to the Vatican vaults to consult specific books that Father Jonas would choose for him.

By the time he finished his career, Father Jonas anounced him that he was sometimes assigned work to study aleged cases of exorcism and although seldom called upon he had his duties to attend to. So he was given the choice to follow him around in his work, while he continued his studies.

He was ordered at the age of 26 and by that time, he could talk fluently in Latin, Italian, English and Spanish and would follow his mentor in awe, following all his instructions without questioning. He loved every bit of it, from the studies and the time buried in books, to traveling and the weird places and customes, as well as facing the ussual fake and the fear of the real ones.

About a year ago, Father Jonas found something that he said was big, and both went to the States to Investigate. Things started going very wrong from the very beginning. Normally posessions were isolated things happening without any seeming of order, but here things seemed to have a certain goal, as if conducted by something or someone. Worst of all, things seemed to be pointing somewhere high in the church.

Father Jonas, died in an exorcism while trying to protect Mateo. At some point I lost conciousness and woke up in the facilities managed by The Hunters. Mateo fears coming back to anyone in the church, as he does not know how big or involved all these things may go into it. His faith is still strong, although further away from the beleives that the Catholic church professes than he cares to admit. He is offered an oportunity to continue his work from within another organisation, and having lost his trust in the church he decides to take it.He wants to clear things up both in his mind and faith, as well as cutting all the tendrils of all this evil that seems to lead into some places within his once beloved church.

He gets what he was looking for since the begining a very active role in the fight versus evil, and the tools to do it.

Description:

Mateo is dry, as if his skin had decided flesh was not useful and stuck directly to his bones. Not in an ugly way though, but more like the kind of picture you would see of someone living in the wild having to fend for every scrap of food he gets. His hair is dark black as well as his eyes, which are set quite deep in his face. He is not tanned but his skin is not completelly white, with clear hispanic looks on him.

His lips are thick and his voice is mellow and deep although not quite potent in itself it has quite a charm to it. He is of medium hight, and tipically dresses in black with a touch of white in his shirt, or discreet colours if black is not available. He always carries a 4cm crucifix that seems to be made of silver and that he keeps clean all the time, as his most valued possession. He is caught often absentmindly rubbing it between his fingers.

He has a thick beard which he used to shave regularly, but he now leaves for a few days unshaven giving him a thick stubble which give some extra color to his face.
